Liz Coffield founded LC Spanish in 2022 because she saw a need for more professionals who can speak Spanish with their clients. Liz spent years as an administrative professional in immigration law. Working with attorneys who spoke Spanish and attorneys who didn’t, she noticed a difference in the attorney-client relationship and case outcomes. When professionals speak even a basic level of Spanish, it shows respect to the Spanish-speaking client, builds trust and rapport, and often makes the working relationship more efficient. This is true of all industries, especially law, medicine, education, mental health care, and social services.
But work isn’t the only reason to learn a new language. For Liz, learning Spanish has been a source of enrichment throughout her life. Knowing Spanish opens up a whole new world of relationships, community, travel, food, music, literature, film, television, theater, art, and history.
LC Spanish students are educators, therapists, legal professionals, volunteers, community workers, musicians, and travelers. What unites them is a desire to connect with family, friends, partners, colleagues, clients, customers, community members and sometimes even their own history. Every class begins with a reminder that “language is relational. We learn with, from, and for each other.” Join us and let the Spanish language expand your life!
-Liz Coffield
Liz Coffield started learning Spanish when she was six years old and never stopped! From a bilingual elementary school to the Hispanic Studies department at Macalester College where she earned her BA, Liz has always pursued her education in Spanish. She has lived abroad in Mexico and Spain and has also traveled to Costa Rica and Cuba.
Liz is a passionate teacher who believes in immersion. She got her start teaching Spanish at the International Institute of Minnesota. While in Madrid, she taught English in a bilingual school. Beginners are her favorite, and she will get you speaking in Spanish right away!
Liz is also an experienced translator specializing in Spanish to English document translations. She currently works part time as a legal assistant at an immigration law firm. Her work in immigration opened Liz's eyes to the current conditions in Central and South America and the Caribbean and the dire need for increased language access here in the U.S.
Liz is currently based in Minnesota, and maintains ties to Memphis, Tennessee where LC Spanish started.
